Igbos and the crisis of confused identity

Image
A video has surfaced on the internet alleging Igbo support for El–Zakzaky's IMN Shiites sect. The video is showing a group of protesters chanting support in Igbo language. A court order has, on Friday, proscribed IMN Shiites as a terrorist group. Justice  Nkeonye Maha also ordered the government to publish the order in two national newspapers.  This is coming at a time when their protests have claimed the life of a Deputy Commissioner of Police, (DCP) in Abuja.  The shittes also killed a corper serving with Channels TV,  as well as burnt two National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) vehicles. These are among other vandalism and road blockade. In a similar situation, Justice kafarati had on September 20, 2017, made a land mark judgement prescribing IPOB and labelled it a terrorist group upon an ex party application by the Abubakar Malami, Attorney General and Minister of Justice. The two outlawed groups, IMN and IPOB, have seemed to have a common foe in presid...

Why is the 2019 rail budget plans not covering the North East?

Image
The Senate screening of ministerial nominees have thrown up a lot of unanswered questions rather than what majority of Nigerians would want to hear from their would be ministers. This is borne out of the fact that a lot of them were ministers since 2015, or acted in higher capacity in the same government. One of the critical infrastructure begin for attention is the dilapidated network of our roads. In a fit of despair, Senator Abbo (PDP Adamawa North) had to direct his frustration at Babatunde Raji Fashola, "why is the 2019 rail budget plans not covering the North East? Fashola was the erstwhile minister for power, works and housing (2015–2019). Which does not actually cover rail transport. The distance between Abuja,  the capital of Nigeria to Adamawa in the North East is 787.8 kms, a painful 12 hours journey by road. One would imagine the frustration of the Senator for the number of lives this long tedious road have caused. But the APC administration have not deemed as nece...

Monday Chikwunka from Delta mastermind kidnappings in the North

"In the course of the operation, troops conducted a cordon and search exercise while acting on credible intelligence reports at YAR SANTA village in Kankara Local Government Area and its environ. At the peak of the exercise, one Mr Monday Chikwunka, 36 years old, an indigene of Delta state alongside sixteen (16) other bandits specialised in rustling cows, killing and kidnapping of citizens were intercepted. Preliminary interrogation and confessional statements by the suspects revealed that the gang are responsible for most criminal activities in the State and its localities. The ring leader (Monday Chikwunka) also served as medical aid of these criminals by providing medical assistance to the wounded bandits who sustained gun shot wounds and their families. He confessed treating the pregnant wife of the one of the most notorious bandit, DOGO NAHALLI who is still at large. The suspects have been handed over to the appropriate security agency for further investigation and pr...

I know the animal I'm dealing with – says Gov. Nasir El–Rufai

This could be an old video but it says a lot about the current situation of the Shiites as explained by Kaduna State Governor Nasir El–Rufai

Apartheid is real in Nigeria

Image
If apartheid is a policy of segregation and political and economic discrimination against persons,  then apartheid is real in Nigeria. Although the original meaning, as specifically outlined by Merriam Webster Dictionary, those discrimination were "against non-European groups in the Republic of South Africa". But the term has been submerged into a general meaning to contain all forms gender, racial, class, political and economic discrimination against section of a people. The effects of these segregation could be consequences of poverty, racism and violence which would result in psychological disorders, and a generation of maladjusted people. All these traits are apparently clear in most Nigerian communities. Where you live says a lot about your status. Lagosians would relate well with Banana island in Ikoyi, Nicon town Lekki or Victoria island. In Abuja, Maitamaand Asokoro are two intimidating communities that houses the rich. These are classical examples of segregated l...

As I write this, the Shiites have taken over Banex junction around Banex plaza in Abuja. Yesterday, they invaded the Central Business District, around the Federal secretariat, killing scores of people, including a high ranking police officer and Channels TV reporter, causing heavy traffic jam to innocent comutters, among other avoidable incidences. As I research over the activities of this sect,  I stumbled on this letter attributed to Dr. Sheik Ahmed Gumi, allegedly written to Sheik Ibrahim El Zak Zaki of IMN in 2014. The letter was criticizing him of blocking public roads. READ: “My Brother, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky: it’s not too late to repent. After registering my condolences to the recent loss of your three children who were gunned down by some elements in the military, I find it an obligation to help you see that some of your actions too are the contributing factors in this unfortunate avoidable tragedy. What I fear most for you and your followers is that the consequence o...

Nigerians happy former Interior Minister is gone

Image
The new ministerial list was out as revealed by the presidency. Out of the 43 names, only 11 of the former ministers made the new list, including Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) (Lagos), Muhammadu Musa Bello (Adamawa), Sent. Hadi Sirika (Katsina), Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu (Ebony). In another vein, Nigerians are showing gratitude for the new faces in the cabinet. Especially, Sent. Godswill Akpabio from Akwa Ibom. Festus Keyamo (SAN)  from Delta State and Timipre Silver from Bayelsa. This shows that the new Buhari administration is giving benefits to those who have helped it win the 2019 election. Those conspicuously absent were Brigadier General Mansur Dan Ali (Rtd) Zamfara and Gen. Dambazau (Rtd) Kano. Dan Ali was Defence Minister while Dambazau was Interior Minister. Both Ministers performed below expectation of Nigerians. Criticisms were high over the unmanned porous borders of the country. Bandits across bordering countries of Chad and Niger seemed to have free passages of Nigerian ...

PUSH HAS COME TO SHOVE By Dr Uche Diala

Image
Today the Shi’a religious and political organization - Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) led by Sheikh Ibraheem Yaqub El-Zakzaky, killed a senior Nigerian Police officer - DCP Umar Bilel, Director Operations FCT Police Command in the line of duty and burnt down a NEMA Rapid Response Centre together with a Fire Truck and an Ambulance right in the heart of Abuja Federal Capital city. This is inspite of the deliberate tolerance of the government and security agencies over time. I'm a witness to the high level of professionalism and restraint shown by the Nigerian Police as this group went about its protests in Abuja for months. Other law abiding citizens in Abuja have equally endured and tolerated the disruptions and tension caused by their endless marches. However the events of today have clearly changed the narrative and aggravated the situation and there can't be any way things can be handled with kid's gloves any longer. Let me point out that IPOB didn't cost hal...

Atiku Abubakar finally found the INEC server

I somehow, stumbled on the news of the ongoing presidential petition tribunal sitting in Abuja today. Stumbled because I have not been following the case,  neither do I I have interest, anyway.  Having presented 62 witnesses to the tribunal as at today, Friday, July 19, the Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar have closed their case. The defendants hope to open their defense on the adjourned date on Monday, July 29. What baffled so many commentators about today's event at the tribunal was the presentation of an expert witness imported all the way from Kenya. Remember that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar also contracted a social media consultant from abroad to the chagrin of thousands indigenous experts that could do the job at less than half the amount. It would even go a long way to providing jobs to our youths and further enhance their capacity but the PDP and its presidential candidate preferred dollars against the naira.  A...

I have the right to Christianise the whole of Nigeria by Cardinal Onaiyekan

Image
People complain that Christianity is being persecuted; they are saying that some people want to Islamise the nation. Just know that nobody can Islamise you unless you agree to be Islamised. Let nobody deceive you, I don’t think there is anybody who has plan to Islamise Nigeria, but even if they do, they have every right to do so. They have every right to do so provided they also know that I have the right to Christianise the whole of Nigeria. The answer is not in complaining and crying; stand up like a man and Christianise Nigeria. You don’t Christianise the nation by standing up and looking for prosperity or material benefits. - Cardinal Onaiyekan July 13 at 11:12 PM These are the replies Onaiyekan got

The Judas in us by the zoo keeper

Image
I was born and bred in Nnewi. I have spent all my adult life in the South East. Until I got a job in Lagos. First few years of my stay was tough because I came into contact with different cultures and religion which hitherto was known through tales from others and through the news channels. I thought that was all,  until I was posted to Damaturu. I stayed with a Christian friend who is a Northerner. The first thing I noticed about him was that he always eat dinner along with his Muslem neighbors. There were four flats and he was the only Christian. All of them would gather on a mat and spread the food in a big wide tray. They mostly eat with their fingers! I will usually eat alone inside the house. Gradually,  I became accustomed to this communal way of life. What is very interesting about this,  was that all of us, the Muslems and we the Christians will wash our hands and dip into the tray and that has created some kind of bonding. My shock later became a strong frie...

Lest We Forget: Security Issues in Nigeria from 1999 to Date!

By Temitope Ajayi As long as former Presidents Obasanjo, Dr. Jonathan, People's Democratic Party and their revisionists continue to play to the gallery over national problems they didn't solve in 16 years, it will never be out of place to show them their records in office. There is no record locally and internationally that supports higher crime rate in Nigeria now than before. Available records from Global Terrorism Index and US Council of Foreign Relations say violent deaths in Nigeria reduced from 2015 to 2018 compared to 2010-2014. Reports from both Global Terrorism Index and US Council of Foreign Relations actually identified 2014 as the worst in number of violent deaths in Nigeria. These reports are available online. Fact is if President Obasanjo solved the problems of farmers/herdsmen and other criminalities in his 8 years, will the country be facing them today? Farmers/herders crisis claimed 50,000 lives under OBJ in Plateau State alone from 1999-2004 according to...

NATIONAL SECURITY - ENDURING FARMER/HERDER CRISES. A CONSEQUENCE OF SUCCESSIVE FAILURES IN RESPONSIBILITY. By Dr Uche Diala

Image
I have promised to bring to you a peek at what the people of  South East feel about their political positions in relation to other parts of the country. Another one from Dr Uche: enjoy                             Dr Uche Diala It is as interesting as it is disheartening how we run around in circles as a nation, leaving things undone, so much so that they continue to haunt us while the same people who shirked their responsibilities keep turning us against each another and we go on arguing and fighting one another over their abysmal and total absence from duty. We have been tearing at one another on the Farmer/Herder crises and spin offs from it. Yet it happens that this is not a new or emerging challenge. As a matter of fact the issues have been identified and isolated and plans drawn to deal with them long before now. What has happened over the years and who should we really be holding to account? Are...

Fulani–led apocalypse

Image
This is a piece of article on how Igbos think of themselves by one of their own,  allegedly by Uche Diala I have promised to bring to you a peek at what the people of  South East feel about their political positions in relation to other parts of the country. This one is unedited: enjoy HARD TRUTH TO MY IGBO BRETHREN ON A SUNDAY. Uche Diala Come on brethren!!! Let's reason together. What kind of nonsense is all these going on? Why have we turned to wailers and empty noise makers?Fulani-led apocalypse' when the present dangers are within. Who did this to us please? The fact is. Some people swore that Buhari hates ndi Igbo before 2015 election. They supported PDP and Jonathan even without asking what PDP and Jonathan did for Ndi Igbo for our 16 years of our unconditional love. PDP and Jonathan lost. They then swore to continue to present to ndi Igbo that Buhari hates us so that Ndi Igbo would never see and acknowledge what Buhari is doing for Ndi Igbo and thus find ...

Senator Abbo is a violent man!

Image
It looks like Senator Ishaku Abbo's travails may not be over this soon. Another person,  a photojournalist this time around, has surfaced claiming that the young senator has always been a violent man. She has written that “Ishaku's apology is bullcrap! He's always been violent" Cliff,  as he is fondly called, has come out to apologized for his unruly behavior over slapping a sex toy shop attendant. Although the apology seems to be linked only to his religious leanings, Mr Abbo was clear in this regard, saying, "To the church of God everywhere in the world, I am sorry. As an ambassador of Christ, much is expected of me. The ambassador of Christ had also reached out to pastors across the country, as  Reno Omokri,  who is a pastor, had said on his twitter handle, "After reaching out to me and other ministers in the Christian Association of Nigeria..." More people are willing to testify against Mr Abbo's violent tendencies, as plenty witnesses watc...

Some truths about #RUGA

A lot of heat was generated about the Federal Government's plan to provide a special settlement for Fulani herders currently trending with a hashtag RUGA. It should be noted that previous governments have tried to profer solutions to unending clashes between farmers and herders. People, especially in the southern part of Nigeria have kicked against allowing herders to roam about their communities. Ranching came up as part of the solutions, which is referred as RUGA, 'settlement for the Fulani herders. In another twist, the same people who have have opposed free roaming are still opposing the provision of a permanent settlement, as some have indicated readiness to stage a protest to the Ask villa on 5th June. Some truths about #RUGA A. There is no intention, not even mention, of extending the scheme to all 36 States. The Governors were sounded out and only 12 (all Northern States) agreed to participate. B. Benue State isn't among the 12. C. The idea is to set up ...
