Elisha Abbo, a Senator and a fine young man
My nine year old son came to me one evening after dinner and asked me to give him my phone. He often does that when he gets lost on his homework; google is his good companion. However, that evening request was different. The boy wanted to google my name so that he can find out what people think about me, his father!
The world has become an open field of information, whatever you do will stick on the Internet for generations yet unborn. How would a father explain to his son over sex-for-grades scandal on which he was caught soliciting for sex on camera? How will a father explain to his son over a video he was caught slapping a woman in a sex-toy shop? Some of these things will never go away. Our children will surf the net one day and would be faced with our horrendous activities of shame.
Not only in the field of open source of information, our people are becoming better at judging of character and profiling. As a public figure, your worst nightmare is to be reminded of a guilt-buried past.
Profiling is the "process of extrapolating information about a person based on known traits or tendencies." It could also mean collecting data on the basis of observable behavior. I can give you verifiable examples.
A photo journalist is indebted to you, you had your security escort beat him because he demanded for his pay. A lady challenges your attitude in a shop, shamelessly slapped her several times. When ever outcomes do not favour you, you become abusive, irritated, rant and shout. Or you become poorly at addressing issues of criticisms; you ride on your constitutional, financial and arrogated bloated powers to slam people in prison.
Profiling these instances you have a person who is impulsively vicious, vindictive and enraged when ever opposed. A person with low esteem with a feeling of insecurity and flat confidence.
Public figures or politicians must learn to pamper their image. People that clap for them when they are at the top do so in order to benefit from the crumbs of their pay package. Ask Reuben Abati what happened to his phones after he left the Villa?
Read, learn, observe, are key ingredients to having impeccable leadership qualities. Atiku Abubakar is one public figure that has been maligned, insulted offline and online. He has self control that is lacking in many public figures or politicians. If people like suck up to their rights for defamation, our prisons would be overflowing by now.
In war, a general does not expose all his plans at the first attack. It is also a weak position to be confrontational over a loosing campaign. The battle for 2023 will be won with achievable goals, endearment, and a wide support base.
The way you speak to people, your circle of friends, the way you walk, what you wear are all in the public domain. In fact, even your hair cut defines who you are. Ask former Senator Shehu Sani.
It's time to look at the bigger picture. Draw out the threats and weaknesses and put out a formidable plan of actionable countermeasures. There are immense opportunities for everyone whether you are winning or loosing. Best of luck.
May Google never give us a bad name.
