PARENTAL TIPS

Power rangers, The Thundermans, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, I am Frankie, Game shakers, Henry Danger, Sophia the first are some of the TV shows I watch with my kids. This way, I have established their stream of interest for TV, books, games and topics for discussion with their friends.

I wash their hair myself and cut their nails. Every Saturday we do their wardrobe together. Their hygiene is a top priority which I have emphasized by becoming part of it.

Oh children blackmail parents a lot, so you know that, when your child refused to do home work or house chores until given a bribe of chocolate or allowed to watch TV at odd hours is blackmail.

Parents must reverse these attitudes and stay ahead of their kids.

My kids like to watch Zeeworld series between 8pm to 10pm. They never miss these extra ordinary TV shows.

The first thing I did was to remove the TV from their room. We watch everything together in the living room; not that I am interested, but I do it to monitor their lists of  interests.

I thereafter set out rules in the house. If you break one rule, you forfeit one day of watching TV, or reading a novel. Oh one other thing; all books are off limits in the bedrooms. They are all stacked on the shelves in the living room. So if you are in detention in the room, there would be no TV, no books to read.

If you miss one prayer. No TV, no books. Only the Qur'an is allowed  in the bedroom.

When my 12 year old daughter had problems memorizing Surah Baqara, I denied her TV, her novels, weekend outings and Facebook. By the way, my eldest daughter uses my Facebook page  account to chat with her friends. Doing that had significantly improved her adherence to rules in the house and has made her more responsible.
