A Christian cabinet minister adopts a Muslim Fulani boy
Solomon Dalong is the minister for youths and sports under Muhammadu Buhari's regime. He is one of the outspoken supporters of President Buhari.
Mr Dalong is a Christian from Plateau state who speaks good Hausa language and relates well with the Muslim community. Below is an exposé on how he has adopted a Muslim Fulani boy.
Last year I visited my village Sabongida in Langtang South, while in the sitting room, I was informed that a Fulani woman wanted to see me. Immediately, I rushed out to meet her. She requested to have private discussions with me which I obliged. She was accompanied by her five year old son. She said she wanted me to adopt her son and train him in school. “I don’t want him to live this type of our life but he should be educated,” she stated. I was taken aback with the passionate manner of her presentation, more so that I am meeting her for the first time.
I accepted her request but asked her to bring the child the following day together with her husband and also prepare him for departure to Abuja. The following day, the husband of the Fulani woman came with one of their children known as Abdul. He told me he will like to accompany him to Abuja, so that he can know my place. We departed Abuja on arrival he handed over Abdul to me after giving him advice. He left the following day.
Abdul had since started school in Gwarinpa Abuja and he is doing very well. As one of my children, Abdul is a Muslim and given to me as trust, I have been monitoring his spiritual development closely ensuring that he performed his prayers regularly, also attending Islamic lessons to support his up bringing.
Yesterday, I took time to visit where his parents are around Yelwa-Shendam in Plateau State. The reception accorded me was incredible, interestingly, they have been listening to my modest contributions in Hausa international media, like BBC, RFI, VOA, DW etc.
My dear son Abdul is standing in the picture below in red, the younger brother in blue opposite him, while Abdul’s biological father is standing directly opposite me in the second picture dressed in white and his immediate younger brother on my right in navy blue.
May God continue to strengthen our love for one another as members of the human community, amen.
