A test for Adams Oshiomole
Primary elections have come and gone with winners and losers. Whichever divide you fall in, the scars would take long to heal, because of the nature of 'winner takes all' of our politics. This syndrome, to a large extent, have characterized the cut-throat competition in our political process. What former President Obasanjo called 'do or die, a term defining extreme measures people take to get into political power and to cling to such no matter the consequence.
This syndrome has buttressed the fact that our political culture is taking a curve to maturity. History will be kind to Senator Omo Agege who stood against the illegality of suspending Senators at will.
History will also be very kind to electorates who voted against political leaders that have absconded from their moral obligations as exemplified by the good people of Gubio, Magumeri, Kaga local governments of Borno state who refused to return their member house of representatives with a zero vote during the APC primary election. Ironically, the man had spent 12 years in the green chamber. Politics has a nasty Sense of humor indeed.
History will be very unkind to the National chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomole. He has presided over one of the most divisive primary elections held by a Buhari friend. There are currently about 12 court cases in respect to APC gubernatorial primary elections across the country. And many other petitions for irregularities in the Senate and house of representatives primary elections.
Impunity, a word ascribed to PDP, has now found itself to the many activities of the APC. It would need a divine intervention for its members to have sweeping victories as it did in 2015. This is however, a process which nations in need of democracy must pass through in order to shape its political culture.
