A broken school chair that fetched $44,000 in the USA
"On March 28, Laurissa Kovacs took to Facebook to raise awareness about the conditions her students learn -- and sit -- in. A week later, the art teacher from Puterbaugh Middle School in McAlester, Oklahoma, had received more than $44,000 in donated supplies, as of Wednesday evening" CNN reported on their Twitter handle.

This is partly what makes the American society thrive in magnanimity and triggers flow of human emotions towards charity work. An emotional quantity lacking in most African countries.
Tales of stolen billions of naira is always in the news in Nigeria. Ordinary politicians own private jets, some travel abroad on flimsy grounds using billions of tax payers money. Funds meant for building classrooms, medical facilities are consistently misappropriated.
CNN further reported that "Kovacs is one of hundreds of Oklahoma teachers participating in a walkout to demand increased funding for schools and higher wages for educators".
Not only that, some states in Nigeria have not paid teachers for six months running. This is why quality of education has continued to dwindled. Trust in the administration running educational facilities have also suffered in Nigeria. Like Laurissa Kovacs, hundreds of teachers have resigned to fate in Nigeria, who as a matter of fact, do not even have a platform to express their tons of grievances. A broken chair will surely not make their lists of problems.
