RiversRerun: INEC officials compromised

Image
https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=16g2FU2brmU This is not only about Gov Wike,  but it is so much for INEC officials who had allowed politicians to bribe them. Some politician threatened to kill you, and you answered , 'no problem'.  It means you have collected his dirty money and you must do to his bidding. God save us all.

Yahya Jameh : Africa is a playground for the superpower nations

After all President Yahya Jameh is not like former President Jonathan of Nigeria. Nigerian social media space has been awash with similarity to conceding defeat by both persons. Perhaps Mr. Jameh had felt threatened by this comparism which had pushed him into rescinding his earlier televised acceptance of defeat by the opposition candidate. But on a serious note, the Gambian President changed his decision to hand over power because the opposition had taken a position to imprisoned him immediately he stepped out of power. The electoral commission also did not help matters having shifted grounds from an earlier official results score of 45% and later dropped the score to 43% win for the opposition. This official uncertainty of results has bolstered Jameh's defiance; that if the electoral body could be changing result percentages it meant there was fraud somewhere in the collation. Mr Jameh had earlier accused the international community of 'dubious interference' in Gambia...

Educating Reno Omokri by Lauretta Onochie

Some years ago, I met a wonderful Nigerian/Canadian man, who was not only an intellectual but has made a mark as an entrepreneur in Canada. During one of our many discussions, he expressed delight that his personal friend, Barack Obama, had won the nomination to run as the President of the United States of America under the Democrats. A few weeks later, my friend was very unhappy. The source of his unhappiness? He was eager to support his friend financially. But he was not an American citizen and so, was PROHIBITED by law, American law, from contributing to his friend, Obama's campaign funds. So, I was mortified that Reno Omokri does not, in 2016, know this fact before embarking on fabricating a story about President Muhammadu Buhari part funding Mrs. Hilary Clinton's campaign with a whooping $500 Million! And under this economic hardship that Reno's paymasters bequeathed to Nigerians? Reno Omokri obviously views America through the lens of PDP where even funds app...

THINKING OUT OF THE BOX (3)

(3) Thinking out of the box An engineer in a car manufacturing company designs a world class car. The owner is impressed with the outcome and praised him a lot. While trying to bring out the car from the manufacturing area to the office they realised that the car is few inches taller than the entrance. The engineer felt bad that he didn't notice this one before creating the car. The owner was worried about how to take it outside of the manufacturing area. The painter said that they can bring out the car and there will be few scratches on top of the car that he will do the tinkering later on. The engineer said that they can break the entrance and after taking the car out, they can cement it. The owner was not convinced with any ideas and felt like it is a bad sign to break or scratch. The watchman was watching all these drama and slowly approached the owner. He wanted to give them an idea on how to solve the problem. They looked at the watchman with disdain asking wha...

THINKING OUT OF THE BOX (2)

(2) THINKING OUT OF THE BOX One of the most memorable case studies on Japanese management was the case of the empty soapbox, which happened in one of Japan's biggest cosmetics companies. The company received a complaint that a consumer had bought a soapbox that was empty. Immediately the authorities isolated the problem to the assembly line, which transported all the packaged boxes of soap to the delivery department. For some reason, one soapbox went through the assembly line empty. Management asked its engineers to solve the problem. Post-haste, the engineers worked hard to devise an X-ray machine with high-resolution monitors manned by two people to watch all the soapboxes that passed through the line to make sure they were not empty. No doubt, they worked hard and they worked fast but they spent a whoopee amount to do so. But when a file employee in India in a small company was posed with the same problem, he did not get into complications of X-rays, etc., but instead came...

THINKING OUT OF THE BOX. (1)

When NASA began the launch of astronauts into space, they found out that the pens wouldn't work at zero gravity (Ink won't flow down to the writing surface). To solve this problem, it took them one decade and $12 million. They developed a pen that worked at zero gravity, upside down, underwater, in practically any surface including crystal and in a temperature range from below freezing to over 300 degrees C. And what did the Russians do? They used a pencil.

Yola South: the burden of a council chairman

The process of electing new leaders into position of authority in our communities is always frightening, whether it is local elections or national, or even international. The upcoming US presidential elections is a case of point. The world is holding its breath as a fascist who is oppose to globalization is inching closer to clinching the Republican Party nomination. While Hilary Clinton who had lived most of her adult live within Government shadows is a ‘painful lier’. It is evident that a majority of voters in the US, according to CNN, ‘have negative opinions of the candidates and say that both Clinton and Trump are dishonest’. In America, dishonesty is a big deal, is it really so in our communities? Whether you are in APC or Mega Progressive People's Party (MPPP), who becomes the next Local Government Chairman should interest you greatly. People are fed up with the status quo, as exemplified during the last presidential election giving birth to Buhari’s change. At the Stat...

FUEL SUBSIDY HAS ALWAYS BEEN A FRAUD!

Forwarded as Received:          In discussing this very volatile issue, let me make one point very clear. I speak from a very informed perspective. This is not just one of those social commentaries. I worked in the downstream petroleum sector for about 36 months as legal counsel and this was at the peak of the subsidy crisis. I handled and prepared critical documents, advised on transactions and participated in the subsidy scheme as a staff of one of the biggest indigenous players in the sector. I have a perfect understanding of the system from the point where these products are negotiated and bought from refineries abroad to the contract for their shipping, from arrival at the Port in Nigeria to the inspections and the final destination at designated tank farms, so I speak with authority. When the subsidy probe started, I also made several submissions to the National Assembly Committees and also was at the EFCC during the investigations. Weak and reactive lead...

Fulani has the right to do business anywhere in Nigeria

Image
If part of the role of government is creating a conducive and enabling environment for the businesses of its citizens to strive, I see no reason why it should not do so for those of its citizens who have chosen CATTLE REARING as there means of livelihood. Abubakar Yahuza Jalingo

....OF CRIMES AND TRIBAL FORENSIC EVIDENCE (The Nigerian experience)

Image
By Abubakar Widi-Jalo In serious countries, when a crime is committed, the first set of people allowed access to the crime scene are forensic experts, they will comb the entire crime scene, take DNA samples, physical evidence and the murder weapons for lab examination. In less than 24hours,names and pictures of suspects will be all over TV stations. But here, the main suspect is usually a whole tribe, the first things we do is to carry a very big 'proverbial brush' and paint a whole tribe, blame a whole tribe, demonize and criminalise a whole tribe. "It is fulani heardsmen" the usual suspects. 24hours,1 year and 10 years after the said crime,we will continue with the blame game and running in circles, while the criminals grow wings and strike again and again. The function of a university is not only to award certificates to students, the university is meant to be a place for scientific research, not just assumptions. That's why we still blame everything on our...

GTBank caught in the web of Saraki's trial

Image
SARAKI: NIGERIANS SHOULD BOYCOTT GTBANK With the spark that President Buhari's anti corruption war is generating, we know that corruption will fight back at some stage, and already we started seeing it coming in many forms such as sabotage and refusal by witnesses to cooperate with authorities. What we did not expect however, is connivance with suspects to get them off the hook, as the GTBank is trying to shield Senate President Bukola Saraki by claiming that a document that is crucial to his prosecution got burnt. We are calling on all agents of change to express their disenchantment against GTBank in every way permitted by our country's laws, including boycotting its services and closing your accounts with them. Such acttion will send powerful message to those institutions, especially banks, which we all along suspected,  benifited immensely from the largese of our country's looters. #BOYCOTTGTBANK

Yes there is acute fuel scarcity. Yes there is darkness due to power outages. Yes the economy is in a downward spiral. But is it PMB that caused all that? No. The Buhari led executive arm of Government is doing everything humanly possible to redress those thorny issues. Yes Senator Saraki has a corrupt antecedent . Yes he became the Senate President through a crooked means. Yes his colleagues are actively supporting him by way of escorting him to the court (their number has reduced from 50 to less than 20 now). Yes he has allowed his colleagues to tinker (insert their interests and expunged the interests of the masses) with the  budget. Yes he is actively trying to change the CCT laws. Are the masses happy with Buhari?  Yes.  Are they happy with the National Assembly? No. Do the masses have rights under the law to organise mass rallies/protests? Yes! Yes my people, I bless you #OccupyNass

My thoughts on the Mad Man of Ekiti by Nura Alkali (Dr)

Image
Governor Fayose wrote a letter asking China to deny a $6 billion loan to Nigeria for vital infrasctructure projects. He reportedly re-affirmed that with a China trip, which in reality, was for a trade fair. He has now said "I'm impeachable" in response to a journalist asking if he feared impeachment. Fayose apparently meant to say "I'm unimpeachable" but English failed the fake Ibadan Polytechnic graduate. Fair enough. English is not our mother-tongue and has failed us on ocassions we call "brain-block". However, many of us also know little about Peter Ayodele Fayose, a violent drug-addict who not only assassinates political rivals but also manhandles his elderly father (who is a pastor) when the situation warrants it.   See a 2005 report of a Commission of Inquiry on Ekiti political violence which recommended to OBJ to have Governor Fayose impeached and prosecuted for complicity. PMB won't have Fayose impeached, but the two and a quarte...

Child marriage in America

Image
Lawmakers in America are battling to overturn some of the country's most archaic laws, which stipulate that children as young as 12 can be married. In the state of Virginia, it is officially still legal for girls as young as 12 or 13 to be brought to a courthouse with evidence of a pregnancy and wed, a practice that has come under increased scrutiny thanks to the Virginia Senator Jill Vogel R-Fauquier. Legislation she introduced, which is now moving through the Virginia General Assembly, seeks to raise the minimum age for marriage to 16 to bring it in line with other states - and similar moves are under way in Maryland and New York, where 3,853 minors were married between 2000 and 2010, according to State Health Department data published in the New York Times. In Virginia itself, according to state health statistics, more than 4,500 minors were married between 2000 and 2013, including about 220 who were 15 or younger.
