Open letter to the Emir of Kano
His royal highness,
The Emir of Kano,
Kano Emirate council.
Allah juttu’nu on balde, Sir,
We are all grieving from incessant attacks on us and our places of worship, schools and markets. These attacks don’t seem to come to an end or even subside. We feel this new bold move is influenced by you calling civilians to defend each other and the disapproval of the Senate for the elongation of the state of emergency imposed on Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States.
It all appears those murderers want the continuation of bloodshed and that is why they are feeling threatened by your call to our collective defence. But history will judge you and the present Legislative arm of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as defenders of their representative.
I am writing to you so that you can continue to amplify and bring up ways for the generality of people to be able to identify terror suspects and stop them in time before they harm us.
I am writing to you because people listen to you both in Nigeria and abroad; you can also reach out to the Sultan of Sokoto, to the Lamido Fombina, to the Shehu of Borno and others of their royal standing. We can organise our people to stand shoulder to shoulder like we do during our Salats (prayers) like building blocks, protect each other, defend our families, shield our communities and be strong and resilient against our enemies.
Sir, I would also like to draw your attention that:
1. Captured terrorists MUST not be killed by mobs as was the case during the Kano masjid attack on Friday 28th November. Apprehended terrorist must be interrogated by elders at that spot to find out who sent them, their sponsors and the reason for the attack. And then hand them over to the mob for instant justice because such people always end up mysteriously disappearing from justice.
2. Today, Monday 1st December, a woman was caught with a bomb in her hijab trying to blow up a school somewhere around Kurna, in Kano. Two others were also apprehended with bombs concealed in wheelbarrows full of dates. This happened in Kano too today. As such, I am calling on the royal highnesses to call on those presiding over our schools and worship areas to create barricades in such a way that people must subject their selves to scanners before they are admitted to such places. It is our responsibility to protect and preserve the atmosphere for good learning and tranquillity while in the masjid.
3. You must also open up a trust account where we can contribute money to purchase state of the art bomb detectors, body scanners and other equipments that help detect destructive devices before they are used. This is paramount since the Government of the day seems to be nonchalant about our distress; it appears we are alone in this ordeal so we must resort to self help.
4. Your royal highnesses must be at the forefront for the sensitization of our people on these issues raised above. I am willing to be the first volunteer to this cause.
Finally, your royal highness, there is urgent need to remind ourselves that it is a DUTY upon all of us to protect our children, our wives, and our wealth from harm and destruction. Above all, we must be prayerful.
May the almighty Allah protect you against your enemies, May He grant you good health and long life. May Allah protect all our good leaders who are fighting to protect us from those bent on destroying our way of life. May He give us the courage to stand for what is right and true.
Long live our republic
Long live our true leaders.
