Is the PDP calling for a civil disobedience?
A flurry of hightened political activities have indicated a default set of anxiety due to the pronouncement of the supreme court that removed the Imo state Governor, Emeka Ihedioha (PDP). Another set of governors to be removed are Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa PDP), Sen. Bala Mohammed (Bauchi PDP) and Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal (Sokoto PDP). Other souces also included Samuel Ortom (Benue PDP) and Abdullahi Umar Ganduje (Kano APC).
As at present, the governor of Adamawa and all of his local government council chairmen have stormed Abuja. Some of the State house Assembly have also arrived Abuja with few of them claiming that their work is for the people of Adamawa and not particularly for the Governor. Their arrival in the capital is to answer the call for a protest against the Supreme court verdict which have upturned the Governorship election in Imo, and a strong indication too that other PDP Governors of Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue and Sokoto may also face the same fate of Imo which has not gone down well with the leadership at the Wadata plaza.
On Friday, the PDP had called for an emergency NEC meeting, which had described the supreme court's decision against Emeka Ihedioha as 'judicial summersault".
They have also planned to take steps to reverse what they described as "injustice", therefore they will explore all available "constitutional and legitimate means, including civil disobedience" to revert to status quo. However, a big blow to this trumpeted call was the glaring absence of 12 PDP governors from the attendance of the 87th NEC meeting.
A chieftain of the PDP in Yola has confided in us that what is happening in Adamawa is an irony. He didn't know that the APC and Bindow (former Governor Bindow Jibrilla, APC) was still interested in being a Governor. "For me, he posited, Bindow has always behaved and acted like a one term Governor. If he wanted to remain in power how come he didn't even campaign as vigorously as one who needed to come back?"
An APC supporter had revealed to us for a clear scenario they are hoping for is an "absolute cancelation" of the 2019 Governorship election. He prayed for a substitution of the APC candidate in the expected fresh election.
This prayer however, has a potency for opening up more controversy for the APC than a simple solution for winning election.
The people that control political power in Adamawa are nasty and brutish, very adept at damage control. The comfort in this for the common man lies with the final arbiter, supreme court.
