WHY DO WE HATE SO MUCH?

A serving State governor once ordered his followers to kill opposition members, he  somewhat said they are like cockroaches, "kill them where ever you find them". This kind of statement coming from a governor was the height of insensitivity and recklessness. A political leader, a father and a husband throwing caution to the winds is a subject of study to psychosocial students.

Like the former Governor, a former minister of the Federal republic also called for a total Annihilation of Fulani tribe. He called them "tsetse flies". What do humans do to tsetse flies? I find this very distasteful! Senior citizens of the Federal republic spewing such hate speeches. Educated, well traveled, yet petty.

If a Yoruba man in Lagos is caught with a human head, will you generalize that all Yoruba's are cultists? The answer is NO. But this former minister had chosen to be a degraded human being. Just like the former Governor, who is a Hausa man, the former minister, a Yoruba man, both of them committed crimes that are punishable under the law. But the law has ignored those infractions because, in Nigeria, we have different set of laws. Some people were arrested and detained for defamation, libel etc on social media. Here are others that called a whole group of people 'cockroaches and tsetse flies' and nothing happened to them. Will this omission not opened gates for future hate speeches by Nigerians?

Most of our institutions only bark and do not bite, one of such is the Human Right Commission. When you uphold somebody's right to free speech, where do you limit that right against the infringement of my own rights? You call me a cockroache, a tsetse fly, are you a trouble maker or a peace maker?

Suddenly there comes another man, an Igbo this time around, spreading hatred and mayhem. I think such things occur because we lack deterrence in our systems. This is what this Igbo man posted on his twitter handle:
“...Message to every #Hardcore Biafran, if you find anybody in your village asking after Radio Biafra, kill the Baboon Awusa Foolani or Yorobber bast*ard. Let them keep searching as we keep tweeting for Biafra…. Lunatics.” This is just an excerpt from the hate message on Twitter.

The message is clearly encouraging Igbo's to kill Hausa-Fulanis and Yorubas in their enclave. This person has ignored the fact that there are millions of innocent Igbos living peacefully deep within the Hausa-Fulani and Yoruba communities. What baffles me most is do they have to call for the killing of others before they secede from Nigeria? Or rather do you have to kill the opposition members before you win election? Do you have to kill ALL Fulani people before you resolve the farmer/herders disputes?

My belief is that all these three sets of people are selfish and do not speak for the generality of their tribes. They are probably on an advanced form of lunacy. How is it that they habor severe hatred for others? Could it be a built-up from their childhood? Was there a form of deprivation? I think all of them must be taken to the hospital. But above all, the government institutions responsible for such issues must enforce the rules else we would continue sliding into chaos, anarchy and disintegration.
